huge hornbeam forest gets new pot
Dieter Schunta from Germany made the pot. Alex and Walter helped me today to get the beast out of the old pot into the new one. It only took 90 minutes. Dieter did a great job to make this look like a real stone island which was smoothened during the ice age and now has a forest growing on top of the rock. Thank you Dieter! Alex and Walter did great in getting this done today. Thank you both!

Wow, Absolutely Fantastic! This is a beautiful faux stone slab. Walter, would you be able to write a detailed description of the process to create such a "pot"? Type of materials used etc.?
What kind of material is that? Is this steal on the bottom?

This is made of styropor with a metal frame. It is very light but also very strong. It can easily carry a heavy forest.

Awesome job! The new pot is great (goes well with the forest), and looks like the forest will be more comfortable in its new home! Very cool!
Definitely a huge improvement. The new slab gives a very natural feeling to the forest. I love it!

Sorry, but I think it´s marginal.
Trees and bonsai in an naturalistic style - YES! Absolute ok! European bonsai are differant than japanese bonsai, thats clear!
And we live in an modern world, too. And modern bonsai-design is absolutly legitimate.
But pots made of styropor and metal are not my vision of bonsai-art. What is the next? Pots made of carbon fibre?

Carbon Fibre! Now that is a good idea!!! Someone, use it!
Walter...The making of the pot and the moving of the forest were both mammoth jobs. Both were done with care, and the result enhances the natural beauty of this wonderful old Forest. The soft curves of the pot will work well with the foliage pads as the Hornbeams leaf out.
Please post a follow-up set of shots once the foliage masses are out. I'll bet the trees will look stunning!

What a magnificent brute! I am surprised that I like this pot -- I was quite sure I would not -- but I do.
Fantastic composition, just perfect balance of the forest and the pot. Looks very natural in styropor too.
